Nigel Berkeley - Coventry University

Module Speciality: Theory, Dynamics and Processes of Economic Development

Graduating in Geography, then subsequently achieving an MA in Regional Planning at Coventry University, Nigel joined the Coventry University academic faculty in 1989 and has since gone on to develop an extensive track record in research and consultancy, frequently publishing in internationally renowned journals.

Initially joining the Centre for Local Economic Development in 2001 as Head of Consultancy, eventually being promoted to the position of Director, Nigel has delivered over 90 reports for a considerable body of public and private sector clients.

Reflecting his research interests, Nigel’s recent work has focused on urban economic development, and modernization and diversification; in particular the restructuring and competitiveness of traditional industries and economies, and neighbourhood renewal and social inclusion.

Following his appointment as Director of the Applied Research Centre in Sustainable Regeneration in 2007, Nigel is now responsible for the management of eleven research staff as well as the day-to-day operation of the Centre. He provides strategic advice through relevant committees including the Coventry Clothing Partnership, Coventry Partnership's Progress, Implementation and Evaluation Group and the Coventry Data Sharing Partnership.
