Rachel Granger - Coventry University

Module Leader: Theory, Dynamics and Processes in Economic Development.

Graduating in 1994 with a degree in Economic Development and Planning in 1994, Rachel went on to take a position within Plymouth City Council managing European activities and EU programmes. Eventually relocating to the East Midlands, she then spent five years managing SRB projects and programmes for Nottinghamshire County Council, also partaking in a managerial role overseeing the region’s EU Objective 2, 3 and 4 programmes.

Going on to complete a Masters in Urban and Regional Studies at Birmingham University in 2001, she subsequently won a doctoral fellowship from the Economic and Social Research Council in conjunction with Birmingham University, resulting in her doctoral thesis on the ‘Geography of the Knowledge-Driven Economy’. In 2003 she completed a Marie Curie fellowship at Copenhagen Business School.

From 2004 Rachel has been employed full time within the academic field, working at Sheffield Hallam University from 2004-2006 and as programme leader for postgraduate regeneration programmes at Coventry University since 2006. Affiliated to the Centre in Sustainable Regeneration and the Associate Director for the Centre for Inter-Professional e-Learning, Rachel is also currently Chair of the Midlands Branch of the Institution of Economic Development, and Board member for a Coventry-based economic development social enterprise.
